What is Personal Care?

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) notes that the regulated activity of personal care consists of the provision of personal care for people who are unable to provide it for themselves, because of old age, illness, or disability. The definition of personal care is broad and covers some of the following areas:

Personal Care:

  • Supporting people with personal hygiene – such as toileting, pad changing, washing, bathing, shaving, hair care and oral hygiene and skin care.
  • Assisting such people to get in and out of bed, changing bed linen, dressing or undressing them etc
  • Assisting them with feeding and / or drinking (including the administration of parenteral nutrition)
  • Shopping, Budgeting, form filing
  • Support to attend appointments and meetings
  • Support to access community and attend activities
  • Support to maintain tenancies
  • Support to attend education

TYPES OF HOME CARE SERVICES WE PROVIDE

Home care services are provided to people in their own homes when additional support is needed with day-to-day life. This can be provided in different ways depending on your care and support needs, and the level of care you need. All our services are provided in the comfort of your own homes. Our Support Staff will come to you and provide support wherever you live

  • Through our experience of supporting people and their families, we know that most people needing care and support would prefer to stay in the safety, comfort and familiarity of their own homes and not endure the disruption caused by a move away.
  • Just like anyone else, a move from home can cause much upset, worry and anxieties. Moving into new environment, meeting new people, having routines imposed on how you live, leaving your loved ones and feeling isolated from your local community are common concerns experienced by those facing a move into a care home and/or specialist care setting.
  • Staying at home with the help of a visiting care assistant means that you can continue to live life your way, while benefiting from one-to-one care provided by our competent and compassionate carers.

Domiciliary Care: What is Domiciliary Care?

This is for those who need care and support with tasks of daily living or clinical care at certain times during the day. Care at home can be provided from visits of as little as 30 minutes, to as many hours / visits throughout the day you require, one day or several days of the week, depending on your care and support needs. Our Carers will visit you in your own home to support you with any activity to do with your personal care that allows you to maintain independence and quality of life.

24 Hour Care: What is 24 Hour Care?

24-hour care at home is provided to people who are either living with complex needs that needs constant monitoring or people who are living with a medical condition that impacts their ability to live a fulfilled life or keep themselves safe. A small team of reliable carers will come to you on a rotation basis to ensure you get the right care, at the right time. Whilst different shift patterns are offered, most clients benefit from consistency in staffing, having same carers working eight or 12 hours shifts over a 24-hour period.

Waking & Sleeping Nights

For those who have complex needs, hourly care can be provided over a 24-hour period. If night care is needed this can be provided as either waking night or sleep-in support depending of the night care needs of the individual who is receiving care.

Sit in Services, Live In Care & Respite care …

This is for those needing a short-term arrangement possibly after hospital discharge to rehabilitate or when a family carer needs a break from their caring role. It is also an ideal service for families who wish to assess whether care at home is the right care choice for their loved ones.

24/7 Supported Living /Supported Housing

Supported living is not about a specific housing model but focuses on providing housing which enable someone to have their own tenancy and to choose their personal care, which make it easier to support them to live the way they want. We provide 24-hour care and support to people with Autism and mental health, learning and other difficulties in our supported housing. We provide care and support so that our service users have, where possible, maximum choice and control of their lives and our staff support them in the least restrictive way possible that is in their best interests.

We believe that individuals with autism and learning disability have the right to the same opportunities as anyone else to live satisfying and valued lives and, to be treated with the same dignity and respect. According to CQC’s ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ model, supported living means that a person is supported to live in the way they want. Their housing and support are built around them rather than fitting them into a service.
